« ZAMBA » RESCUE MISSION

In April 2007, a critical rescue mission took place in Kamina — 600 km from our sanctuary — led by the Provincial Ministry of Environment and J.A.C.K. This operation was called ‘ZAMBA’ as it is the Swahili word for gorilla…

Two gorillas were indeed reportedly up for illegal sale. By the time we arrived, they were gone…But hope wasn’t lost.

Instead, two baby chimpanzees were confiscated and placed under our care: Zamba and Kina.

Today, they are strong, beautiful adults. Zamba is outgoing, curious, and full of energy. Kina is quiet, reserved, and deeply dislikes being photographed.

Every rescued soul is unique. Every personality, a world of its own. And that’s the beauty of what we do — protecting not just a species, but individual lives.

Zamba and Kina are now among our « elders » — living proof of what rescue, love, and time can achieve.

Every life saved is a victory.
