Rushi, a new rescue

Rushi is a baby galago (Otolemur crassicaudatus crassicaudatus) not even one year old.

He was seen for sale in the streets of the Commune of Ruashi (Lubumbashi) and was entrusted to us after confiscation. These animals are highly prized for their flesh and are often the object of black magic.

Rushi was terrified in his transport cage, especially as the trafficker had tied his tail to one of the bars of the cage to prevent him from moving.

After a visit by Dr Calvin, the animal appears to be in good health and has a lesion on the tail where it was tied. Hopefully he will not lose the tip of his tail, as once the blood stops flowing, the limb necroses and eventually falls off on its own or surgery is required if there are complications (tail surgery).

Of course, we will keep you informed. The baby galago is taken care of by our Founder, Mrs Roxane, who looks after it during the day but especially at night because, as a reminder, these prosimians are nocturnal!
